Traditional or New Wave for the Holidays

by Rebecca Bertone

December 1st, 2017

Hello December! Holiday festivities are in full swing and it’s the best time of the year! Whether you put up your tree the day after Thanksgiving, or wait to hang lights until mid-December, there’s always something new out there to help you spruce up your decorating game. Lucky for you, we’ve collected the best and brightest this year has to offer. No matter your style, whether it be traditional red and white, or really rustic, or “millennial pink,” you’re bound to find something to add to your cart.

Nothing says nostalgia more than traditional, red and green Christmas decorations. Signs saying “Joy” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” bring back all the feels. Adorable plush Santa’s hanging from the roof will never get old! Bring that tradition into the 21st century with new, stylish ornaments in fun shapes. Try a decorative banner or new garland to blend old tradition with new style. Some traditions never change, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be updated!

Rustic might be the new “red and green.” Wood accents, metal candle holders, and paper ornaments are all great ways to put a little rustic flare on the holidays. Switch up your ornament game with clear plastic bulbs full of whatever the holidays mean to you, like pages from your favorite Christmas book or lyrics to your favorite carol. Or, buy them prefilled and save yourself some time. Adding wooden elements helps to round out the rustic theme. Try wooden signs in your entryway or living room! Bringing together metal elements with your wooden ones ties it all together. Adorable reindeer votive holders on your Christmas dinner table brings light and warmth to the holiday.

We’ve all seen the commercial, with the tree decorated in “millennial pink.” It got us thinking...not everyone does the holidays in a traditional way. If you’re feeling like thinking outside the box this year, try funky ornaments or a crazy outside light display. Adding a shag tree skirt or purple garland can help make your home feel like your version of the holidays.

Whatever you choose, traditional or new wave, we’re sure your home will be the most welcoming place on the block this year. Share your setup with us on social media using #PiggeebackHolidays! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
